Merchandising & Rules
In the "Rules" tab of the Search dashboard you can influence the ranking or destination of specific searches.
Merchandising rules are available from the Growth plan and up.
Rule types
| Rule | What it does |
|---|---|
| Pin products | Specific products always appear first for a search, in the order you set. |
| Boost ranking | A brand, category, or product moves up in the results ranking. |
| Bury | The opposite — demotes a brand/category/product in the ranking. |
| Redirect | A specific search takes the shopper straight to a URL of your choice, without even running the search. |
| Hide out-of-stock | Turns on the merchandising toggle that fully hides out-of-stock products (also found in Settings). |
Adding rules manually
Each rule type has its own editor: type the target search term (e.g. "shoes") and the rule's detail (which products get pinned, which brand gets boosted, where it redirects to). Click "Save" and the rule applies on the next search.
The natural-language compiler
Instead of filling in the form, you can write your rule in plain English, e.g.:
"boost the Adidas brand high in the shoes search"
The AI turns your description into a structured rule and shows you a before/after preview — which products showed up before, which will show up after applying it. Only if you approve the preview do you click "Apply" to save the rule.
The compiler is only used the moment you WRITE the rule — it never calls AI during a real shopper search. Search stays fast and deterministic.
Practical examples
- "put SKU-1234 first in the 'sale' search" → a pin rule.
- "demote the clearance category" → a bury rule.
- "the 'warranty' search should go to the /warranty page" → a redirect rule.
Limits
Each rule type (pins, boosts/buries, redirects) has a cap of 30 active rules — enough for the most common merchandising cases without the management getting unwieldy.
